Anglo-Saxon Churches in Yorkshire

There are more than 200 churches where we can still see parts of the original Anglo-Saxon building. Some of the best of these survivals are in our area. Where are they? What are their architectural characteristics? And how, in the many centuries since the Norman Conquest, have successive developments respected what came before? These are the questions that Professor Hill will answer in her illustrated talk.

PROFESSOR JOYCE HILL

Professor Hill has published extensively on the language, literature and culture of Anglo-Saxon England. She also has the distinction of being the first woman to be appointed as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds, subsequently being invited to become the founding director of a policy unit for Higher Education throughout the UK. She is President of the Leeds Association of the National Trust and, in retirement, serves on a number of national commissions and advisory bodies.
